A departure board for the whole planet.

RunwayFinder started as a simple question: what would it look like if you could search every runway on Earth as easily as checking a flight board? It grew into a full toolkit — search, distance, code conversion, and nearby-airport lookup — all in one place.

Built on real aviation data

Every field — runway length, surface, lighting, elevation — mirrors the schema of the api-ninjas.com Airports API, so what you see here matches real-world aeronautical records.

Local-first, global when you need it

A small bundled dataset powers search, distance, and nearby-airport lookups instantly, with zero setup. Add an API key and every tool switches to live, worldwide coverage.

Built for speed

Debounced autocomplete, server-side filtering, and cached responses keep every search snappy, even across a growing dataset.

Open, modular code

Every page is a small, typed component. The search, distance, conversion, and nearby-airport logic each live in their own module, easy to read and easy to extend.

The data, honestly

This project ships with a small bundled sample of airports so every tool works out of the box, with no setup. For full global coverage across all six endpoints — search, list, convert, distance, suggest, and nearby — connect a free or paid api-ninjas.com key. When a key is present, every request is proxied live; otherwise, the same logic runs locally against the sample data.
